The Embassy of India has posted the following message on its web-site
https://indianembassy-moscow.gov.in/alert-fraudsters-duping-indian-nationals-posing-as-embassy-officials.php

“Alert: Fraudsters duping Indian nationals posing as Embassy officials

Few Indian nationals residing in Russia have once again been contacted by fraudsters by impersonating as Officers of the Indian Missions/Posts or Government of India for financial gains and data theft. The fraudsters have used the technology to mask the numbers of Embassy of India, Moscow, especially Reception number +7 (495) 783 7535 to appear genuine to the targeted Indian nationals. The main modus operandi noticed has been to highlight violation of some Indian law like Immigration & fake data entry (date of birth) during previous visits to India and extract money as penalty through online transfer or Western Union Money transfer. The Embassy of India, Moscow requests all Indian nationals residing in Russia to exercise extreme caution while attending these kinds of dubious calls, as Embassy of India does not make any such request for fund transfer through Western Union or online transfer for any of its services. Embassy would also encourage victims of such frauds to discretely record such conversation of fraud, if found suspicious and share the same with the Embassy for forensic examination to nab the culprits. The identity of the victims shared with the Mission would be kept discreet and they may contact the Embassy of India, Moscow through email- cons.moscow@mea.gov.in, telephone — +7(495)7837535 — Extension: 282 / +74959162353 / +79652773414 or you can visit the Consular Wing of the Embassy of India, Moscow or send the same through post. Indian citizens may widely circulate this information within the Indian Community to prevent further duping of Indian national and to assist the nabbing of culprits/fraudsters. The victims of such frauds may provide information as per the table while submitting the complaint through the email or post.»
